Festival diary: Fitz Barbershop
Great fun - seven students from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge singing an hour's worth of music built loosely around a story of a soap romance. Their ensemble wasn't always up to scratch but this didn't take anything away from the audience's enjoyment, as their enthusiasm more than made up for any shortfall.
The music ranged from barbershop standards - "Yes sir, that's my baby" and the like - to more unexpected numbers such as "Ooh, ah, little bit more" and "Uptown girl". Most extraordinary of all, however, was the Britney Spears medley: we spent much of the show smiling, but this one made us crack up.
Fitz Barbershop's A cut above is at 7:05pm at C central (Carlton Hotel, North Bridge) every day until Saturday 13th August. Phone the Festival Fringe box office (0131 226 0000) for details.
