Lisa Milne in recital

A well-chosen programme to showcast a fine talent is sadly no guarantee for a full house. Lisa Milne deserved better, but she delighted her small audience in the comedy of Caplet's 3 fables de La Fontaine. Her rich tone proved just as convincing in the more serious first half, Strauss' Ophelia-Lieder being a particular highlight.

If the evening had a weakness, it was in Malcolm Martineau. Though his skill is in no doubt, his comedy mugging in the lighter pieces grated in comparison to the subtleties he played on elsewhere. All the same, a very fine evening which should have been better attended.
