Superman returns
Oh dear oh dear ... You know you're in trouble when Superman, the iconic superhero of the silver screen, fails to make a mark on the summer blockbuster season.
If it weren't for Kevin Spacey (a joy as Lex Luthor) and the family dynamic between Lois Lane, Richard White and little Jason, Superman returns would be poor indeed. The scenes at the Daily Planet are tame, the special effects look like special effects and the plot is riddled with holes. For starters, how come no-one bats an eyelid when Clark Kent is nowhere to be seen during the last half-hour of the film?
Thank heavens there's the Festival season to lift us out of the cinema's cultural trough.
